Defying The Odds South Africa is the name of my project. It's a project of introducing and coaching chess to mostly disadvantaged and underprivileged kids in marginalized communities in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
It's a project I started in 2020 in the township of Khayelitsha in Capetown South Africa. At the height of the Covid pandemic in 2020 with my small savings and with kids not attending school due to the Covid regulations and through my passion for chess and working with kids I bought 7 chess sets, 3 packets of mask, a 5litre of Sanitizer and erected a backyard shack and started bringing kids for chess lessons in Khayelitsha, Capetown.
Starting with a group of 8 kids more kids started trickling in and now the project has 609 kids in the project which includes some 57 orphans and the number is rising up.(Next page)
