I also expanded the project into the schools in the township of Khayelitsha in Capetown and so far with my team of six volunteers we have managed to set up chess programs in 16 schools both primary and high schools in the township.
Chess is now becoming more and more popular in this township mainly through this initiative. We have managed to produce kids who have gone on to play in provincial championships for four years in a row now. In the project we also provide mentorship, assist learners with homework.
We also with the help of donations help the orphans in our project with needs like good 2nd hand clothes, stationery, school uniforms. Each Saturday after chess programs we also prepare and serve the kids with some refreshments. (Next page)
